Edremit Vocational School Launches Another Exemplary Project Within the Scope of University-Society Cooperation

As part of the "Volunteering Studies" course, sophomore students from the Edremit Vocational School (MYO) Olive Cultivation and Processing Technology program organized a hands-on workshop at Havran Seyitonbaşı Primary School. Under the guidance of Department Head Asst. Prof. Dr. Tuba Öncül Abacıgil and their advisor, Lecturer Nuray Unat, the university students taught 4th-grade pupils the practical art of making olive oil soap.

Traditional Methods Meet Modern Knowledge

In a workshop area set up in the schoolyard, the university students explained the step-by-step transformation of olive oil into soap. The young students followed the entire process—from preparing the mixture to pouring it into molds—with great interest. The event went beyond mere technical instruction; it served as a vital cultural exchange, passing the region’s most significant heritage—olive cultivation culture—down to future generations.
